Jessica is a SLC native and trained locally in Classical Ballet. She was a member of the Olympus High Dance Company and All State Drill Team as Captain. Jessica graduated from the University of Utah with a B.F.A. in Modern Dance. Here she was awarded a full tuition paid departmental scholarship. Within the department, she’s studied technical forms of both ballet and modern along with multiple other practices of movement. Jessica is an experienced teacher and choreographer. Choreographing multiple pieces for the University of Utah and teaching at multiple public schools. She enjoys most teaching at Silhouette and is grateful and excited as she finishes her 6th year as a teacher at the studio. She enjoys working with youth, and strives to share the love she has for dance with them while being a positive influence during their early stages of maturing. While she will continue at Silhouette, she will also be a Dance Specialist for the Granite School District as part of the Beverly Sorenson Artist in Residence program.
Laura is originally from Tampa, FL. She currently resides in SLC, Utah and dances for Odyssey Dance Theatre. She will begin her third season with the company in the fall. This will be her second year working with Silhouette. Previous to this, she graduated from the U of U with a B.F.A in Modern dance and a minor psychology. She had the opportunity to perform in works created by Andrea Miller, Merce Cunningham, Twyla Tharp and Marc Bogaerts. She has attended numerous programs such as SALT Dance Fest, Northwest dance Projects’s LAUNCH, Hubbard Street, Alonzo King’s LINES and Ballet West. Laura was invited to perform in Eric Handman’s “Disappearing Days” at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. You can enjoy watching her performing with Odyssey this year. Laura is always excited for any opportunity to perform, teach, and choreograph and share her talents with her students. Laura is looking forward to a new journey, she will be married this May. We are thrilled that Laura will continue to be a part of the SDS family.
Haley Nelson has trained extensively in tap, modern, jazz, contemporary, classical ballet, Pointe, hip-hop,and African. While in high school, Haley was the head choreographer for her high school Dance Company, received the Outstanding Dancer award, was selected as the Dance Sterling Scholar, and went on to be a state finalist. She has expanded her dance training in Los Angeles and New York and had the opportunity to study under renowned dancers and choreographers such as Desmond Richardson, Mandy Moore, Sidra Bell, Joe Goode, Johannes Wieland, and Andrea Miller to name a few. Haley currently continues to train with Utah Tap under Debby Robertson.
Haley received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Modern Dance with a minor in Health from the University of Utah where she also served as the senior class school advisory council representative. She was also selected as a freshman to perform in the U of U’s Performing Dance Company.
Haley taught dance at Elk Ridge Middle School in Jordan School District for four years. While there, she started and directed the Elk Ridge Middle School Dance Company and choreographed the school musicals including Aida, Beauty and the Beast, and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Haley has also been a guest teacher at many schools and studios in Utah including Salt Lake School for the Performing Arts, Salt Lake Arts Academy, Tanner Dance, and many others.
Haley has danced with Ririe-Woodbury's Step Up, The Mormon Tabernacle Choir Dancers and Wassolanka African Dance Company. She was also invited to be a guest performer in Ririe Woodbury's "Momentum-Elevated".
Shae has been tumbling since she was 4 and participated in competitive gymnastics for 5yrs. She also did competitive cheer for 2 yrs. Shae has been coaching locally for the past 8 yrs and loves it. "I love watching students get stronger and become more confident learning new skills as part of their dance training. She is looking forward to heading out the new Dance Acro program at Silhouette. Shae loves the outdoors biking and hiking with her favorite partner, her husband Sam Orchard.
Ali began dancing at the age of 4 and continues on her dance journey. After graduating from Highland High School last year, where she was Vice President of Highland High dance company and was recognized as the Sterling Scholar in dance from Highland, she went on to state as her region representative. Ali is now apart of the Dance Program at the University of Utah, where she continues her dance journey. She has been training and studying with various teachers, including a master class series in NYC and LA. Ali has been with the studio since 5th grade and now teaches at the studio. Her first year as a company choreographer has been nationally recognized with top honors and with an “Outstanding Choreography “ award. We love watching our students grow and spread their wings.
Abby comes to Silhouette directly from SLC. She has been dancing all her life. Abby began her serious dance training at the age of 10 at her local studio and continued to train throughout high school. She entered the competition dance world at the age of 12 and continued to compete winning Overall high points and "Outstanding Dancer" awards. Abby was Dance Co. Pres. at Highland High School and after graduation entered the dance program at Utah State. She has taught throughout SLC and has been a guest choreography at regional high schools throughout the state. After spending 18 months in California on a service mission, she returned to her dance training through several work studies in L.A. and San Fran Cisco area. Abby will be finishing up her B.A this year and is excited to be teaching at Silhouette before she leaves to support her husband in dental school.
Madison started dancing at the age of 3 and believes dance is one of the most powerful art forms there is. She started her dance training at Idaho Falls School of Ballet and was a member of the Dance Depot traveling competition team. While attending Utah State University, she was a member of Full Circle- their contemporary dance company andlater became co-director. Madison also taught at USU in the Modern department. In 2014, Madison began dancing with Bonnie Story’s pre-professional company Expansion. Madison is currently working as an independent dancer, teacher and is part of the Millennium Dance Complex work study while she continues to audition, teach and choreographing around the SLC valley. We are excited to welcome her back at Silhouette this year.
Janae trained locally in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, character and lyrical under the direction of Lausanne Jensen at Dance Corp Esprit. Highlights of her career include working with amazing choreographers like Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio and Margarite Derricks. Janae has been teaching dance since 1997 and began teaching at Silhouette in 2011. Her dance career also includes judging various high-level dance competitions and try-outs over the past 17 years. Janae worked for Dance America for 8 years ,judging and running the competitions. Janae loves to see the growth and development in each dancer and is so grateful for the opportunity to work and instruct such amazing students. Janae is blessed with the most supportive husband and 4 wonderful kids. She loves being a part of the Silhouette family and the dance journey of your children.
